Pretty Good, Could Have Had Better Characters

This was a decent book about a Dom and a man new to BDSM and sex with another man. The premise was simple and worked, but the characters weren't fleshed out very well and a few of the situations were kinda ridiculous.
I can recommend this to folks who need to read any and all BDSM or folks looking for a simple story to take you out of your head for a half hour.

So I am torn on how to approach this one. There were many things I liked about this story and a few things that I felt were missing. Overall, this one ended as a middle of the road read but a good start to a new series.
So what did I like about this story. I enjoyed the unique look into the BDSM life. Now for many of you who are in the lifestyle or read about it often, you will probably read this and laugh at me for saying it is a unique look into BDSM. But you need to understand my history to see why I say this. I have no experience with BDSM in my real life and I have only recently started reading books that include this topic. So far, my experience with BDSM has been limited to extremely HOT encounters between established players and BDSM that was being used to “fix” someone broken. In all cases, I have never been exposed to the way in a which a new partnership is created between strangers where one player is being brought into the life with no experience. So for me, this book was a great thing. I got to see the rules being established, the mentality being set, the way a good Dom needs to be aware of EVERYTHING so that the new relationship can be pleasurable for both parties. For me, this was different than anything I have read.
Not knowing anything about BDSM itself, I cannot tell you if the facts are correct, so I chose to focus on the personal aspect of the partnership. I enjoyed seeing the reactions as each new experience was introduced. The apprehension, the rationalization, the acceptance. I enjoyed seeing the way the men learned about each other and that they sought to bring forth the best in the other. I liked that through their play, they actually helped bolster the other person’s confidence yet this was not an instant fix to everything that was wrong in their daily lives. I liked that for this couple, there was more involved than just sex. And in the end, they have the potential to be a great couple inside and outside the BDSM scene.
That brings me to the things I did not like about this story. There was no history or build up so when these men declared their love, I felt like I was missing something. The author hinted at issues for both men, but never really explored them. The reader was mostly left to fill in the gaps, and at times, I could not do so in such a way as to justify the character’s actions. I also felt that this story was rushed. There was a good bit of time setting up the BDSM partnership, but the emotional development outside the playroom was displayed almost as a side thought when the plot called for it. I never really understood the connection between these men outside of the bedroom. I believe that this story would have worked better for me if the author had increased the word count and spent more time creating well defined and well developed characters. Then the rest may have fallen into place.
I think this was a good start to this series. It set the stage for the type of world and the premise of the BDSM matching site. There were really no other characters introduced, but in this instance it was not really needed. The central theme of the matching service is more than enough for the reader to understand that these couples will most likely not be connected throughout the series. So while I think these particular men needed more to their story, the series is still interesting to me and I will most likely pick up the next installment.

Yes this story, I couldn't put it down and read far into the night.
This is a beautiful romance well written with developed, realistic characters. The Author does an amazing job of letting you truly know her characters. You are able to see inside the motivations and into their hearts. It was so good, I'm reading it again.
Had me wishing there really was a place to match people that are Dominant and Submissive to each other. And if there's a Milo out there...I'm your Hunter.
Hope you buy, read, and enjoy this story as much as I did.
So looking forward to Cecil Wilde's next book in the series and finding out if it will be able to surpass the warm goose bumps this one gave.
